Island at the Edge - from fleece to wool to weave to knitting - specialist producer of yarns, tweeds and designer apparel and knitwear. Traditional skills training - courses available for Crofting, knitting, crochet, spinning, dying wool and basic crofting skills.
Based in Edinbane Isle of Skye, we rear native Hebridean and Black Cheviot sheep. We produce high quality yarns, 5-ply, DK and Aran, which we use to produce top quality hand-knitted sweaters, our specialisms are traditional Ganseys and the Crofters range. We also offer a range of tailored apparel from our own home grown and Skye woven tweed, including kilts and traditional dress.
We also stock a wide range of Shetland wool.
Traditional knitting skills are also taught here on the Croft, from Gansey knitting (working on 5 needles) to Intarsia, Fairisle and Aran. Courses available for beginners, intermediates and experts ranging from half day to three days duration. We also offer land-based skills courses including Crofting skills, including a two hour 'Croft Tour' where you get to meet the animals and learn a little about spinning, weaving, local history and archeology to our 'Crofter for a Day' where you get up close and personal with the animals and experience being a Crofter for a day.
