Borders Abbeys Way

Borders Abbeys Way Walking Holidays

Hike through the heart of the Scottish Borders on the Borders Abbeys Way. This self-guided walking holiday tours between four stunning abbeys, rambling over green hills and through pine forests. It's the perfect circular adventure.

Walking holidays with Contours are self-guided, so departure times are completely flexible and you can build your walking group entirely from friends and family, or opt to hike alone. We include daily luggage transfers, along with 24/7 emergency support, breakfast each morning, hand-picked accommodation and all the maps and guidebooks you'll need to find your way.

We offer two versions of the Borders Abbeys Way, with multiple itineraries to choose from to match your ideal daily mileage.

Dogs are welcome on all our Borders Abbeys Way holidays. Just click the paw print on our site to find dog-friendly itineraries.

The Full-Trail Holiday

This 68-mile circular route tours the ruined monasteries at Jedburgh, Melrose, Dryburgh and Kelso. With a bewitching mix of riverside paths, green hills and welcoming local villages, the Borders Abbeys Way is a great way to sample this sometimes-underestimated area of Scotland. Choose from itineraries spanning five to seven days of walking.

Borders Abbeys Way Highlights

Visit all four of the great abbeys on this two- to three-day-long short break from Melrose to Jedburgh. Although this holiday cuts out the mix of river walking from Jedburgh to Melrose, you'll enjoy plenty of riverside paths elsewhere, with lovely shaded sections through leafy woodland.

Looking to modify our standard tours? It's easy to add extra nights at stops of your choosing, so you can build in plenty of rest days and explore the area in full.
