As an Italian living in the city, I’ve pulled together a list of my favourite places where you can find the best authentic Italian pizza in Edinburgh, friendly service and, if that’s not enough, things to see and do nearby.

Salerno Pizza St James Quarter
Salerno Pizza offers a fresh Neapolitan pizza experience, using the best traditional Italian ingredients. They have something for everyone – vegan, vegetarian and gluten free pizza options can be found on their menu.
What makes it so special?
This authentic pizzeria offers off-menu pizzas every month, so you can always have something new to try! Those with a sweet tooth won’t want to miss their “Nutella Pizza”, served with fresh strawberries – a real treat within their dessert menu.

Pizza Geeks Leith & Dalry Road
If you’re into the world of video games, cartoons, movies and everything in between, then Pizza Geeks is the place for you - their pizza names are based on their favourite video games and cartoons! Make sure you also leave room to try their famous filled-dough balls.
As well as their restaurants in Leith and Dalry, check out their brand-new pop-up experience on Easter Road. Inspired by 80s nostalgia, the venue encompasses everything from gaming to movies and gives a special nod to iconic 80s inspired shows with also a quiz night every Wednesday and a new cocktail menu. They also welcome dogs in both venues.

Razzo Pizza Great Jct St, Leith
If you're looking for authentic Neapoliotan pizza made with love, Razzo Pizza is one not to miss. Open everyday, this intimate pizzeria offers a variety of antipasti, pizzas and sweets for all tastebuds.
Make sure to book if you're planning to visit, as seating is limited. Or why not order to takeaway, so you can savour a pizza on the shores of the Water of Leith.
What makes it so special?
Sit on one of the stools at the window and enjoy lunch and watch the buzz of a sunny Leith day. It's hard to imagine a better spot for it!

3 Blind Mice Blackfriars St, Old Town
3 Blind Mice prides itself on crafting romana-style pizzas using only the finest ingredients. The homemade dough is created with a blend of two carefully selected flours and perfected with two different fermentation temperatures.
What makes it so special?
Open all day, they also offer takeaway pizzas as well as delicious sandwiches. Catering to various dietary needs, they offer options for gluten-free and vegan guests. Oh, and they're dog-friendly too!

You'll be spoiled for choice of things to do strolling around the Old Town just outside the pizzeria. Take a stroll on the vibrant Royal Mile and pop in the Tron Kirk Market just around the corner to discover the quirky art of over 20 Scottish artists and designers.

Origano Pizzeria Leith Walk
If you've never been to Origano you should definitely add it to your list. Sit back and relax while the open kitchen set-up allows you to see the pizza making process right from your seat. As well as their delicious pizza, this pizzeria offers so much more, from homemade bruschetta to freshly prepared salads, lasagne and indulgent, handcrafted desserts.
What makes it so special?
This pizzeria is in an intimate setting, perfect for a candelight date night, or a special occasion in a cosy atmosphere. They provide gluten-free and vegan choices as well.
What is there to do nearby?
Located right in the middle of Leith Walk, you will have plenty of choice for places to have an aperitivo before stepping into Origano for a pizza. What about the newly opened Brunswick Book Club, or the Abode Café Bar just across the road?

Matto Pizza Meadowbank, Newington & Morningside
With pizzerias in Newington, Morningside and Meadowbank, Matto Pizza is dedicated to the art and craft of true Neapolitan pizza. All of their pizzas are slow-cooked in a wood-fired oven at 500 degrees for 60 seconds or less.
What makes it so special?
Matto Pizza has 16 pizzas on the menu, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, too. Don’t forget to try their “Matto crema e amarena,” a Neapolitan babá filled with cream and decorated with black cherries.
What is there to do nearby?
If you’re in the Morningside area, take a stroll down the delightful streets in south Edinburgh, where you can browse through a variety of independent stores. Or, if you’re near Meadowbank or Newington, grab a takeaway pizza and enjoy it at sunset on the hills of Arthur’s Seat.

Pizzeria 1926 Dalry Road
Pizzeria 1926 offers pizza and service in true Neapolitan style. With frequent pizza specials on their daily menu, this pizzeria won’t disappoint if you’re looking for true Neapolitan pizza.
What makes it so special?
Do you know all the Napoli players? Don’t worry, you’ll learn them all – every pizza here has been named after one of the players! Napoli, Maradona and Pizza, that’s the order of things according to Pizzeria 1926.
What is there to do nearby?
Spend an evening at the nearby Fountain Park after eating a delicious pizza. You’ll be able to find a movie theatre, bowling alley, laser tag, mini golf and trampolines, as well as other restaurants for a late-night snack!
