This short undulating ride from Fort William to the top of nearby Glen Nevis can be started from the town itself or, for those wishing to avoid the town traffic from one of the car parks a mile or so up the glen. If coming from Fort William itself start at the railway station and follow the main A82 north for ½ mile, past the Lochaber leisure centre to the roundabout at Nevis Bridge where Glen Nevis starts. This section can be quite busy but is still within the built up area / 30mph zone.
The route then starts to head up the glen with ever steepening slopes on both sides but as the road follows the floor of the glen the cycling is easy. After passing the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, the youth hostel and then the campsite the road gets quieter. The River Nevis is crossed at Polldubh where it’s worth a stop to view the falls below the bridge after which the road starts to climb a bit more until the road end is reached about 6 miles from the start of the glen. To return simply retrace your outward route.
